Worcester's only pro hoops team hosts New England Outtatowners.
The 78's feature three players from division one schools (Mark Cornelius-UMASS Lowell, Tony Galllo-Coppin State, Sean McCarthy-NJIT) three WPI alumni (Sam Longwell, Domenick Mastascusa, Sean Doncaster), the leading all-time scorer at Endicott (Kamahl Walker), players from Fitchburg State (Jaleel Bell), Westfield State (Lee Vazquez) and the MVP of the 2010 Shrewsbury High School champion team (Jose Cruz Jr.) All our players currently reside in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.
The Worcester 78's compete with over 100 teams nationwide in the American Basketball Association (ABA). The ABA was in competition with NBA from 1967-76 until the two merged. The brand was licensed and resurrected in 2000.
